Randy Dahilig was a former Network Engineer of University of Guam (UoG), who played a vital role in the advancement of the University’s network infrastructure and information technology. As a Network Engineer of UoG, Randy was involved with the advancement of the University’s network and data center technology, engaged with local researchers and international Research and Education Network (REN) organizations, and led projects involving local network advancements in Guam, such as Mariana Islands Internet eXchange (MARIIX) and Guam Open Research and Education eXchange (GOREX). 

Having participated in the advancement of the Information Technology of UoG, Randy was invited to share UoG’s network development and its integration with Internet 2, in a lightning talk series Miami, Florida, Technology Exchange (TechEX) 2016. Furthermore, Randy also assisted in teaching the best practices of networking in the Asia Pacific Region alongside with Network Startup Resource Center (NSRC) engineers, and Asia Pacific Regional Internet Conference on Operational Technologies (APRICOT). Later, Randy was awarded membership for the Asia Pacific Network Information Center (APNIC) 2019 fellowship program. 

Randy is an alumnus of the University of Guam, obtained his Computer Information Systems (CIS) undergraduate degree, and Professional Master of Business Administration (PMBA) master’s degree. Randy was a former President and creator of the Mathematics and Computer Science Club (MACS), now known as Engineering, Mathematics, and Computer Science Club (EMC^2), former Senator of the UoG Student Government Association (SGA), and Treasurer of UoG Staff Council. Randy was born in Ilocos Norte, Philippines, migrated and raised in Guam starting at the age of 4. After 23 years, the year of 2019, Randy takes the leap of faith and moves to New York City and is now a Senior Network Engineer at Boyce Technologies.

Randy Dahilig, a former Network Engineer of UoG, moves to New York City in hopes of expanding his knowledge and experience in the IT industry. During his endeavor, he faces adversity with the shift of culture, shift of lifestyle, and faces the challenges of the COVID-19 in New York, the epicenter of the COVID-19 in the United States of America. Here, he will share not only what he endured, but also how the experiences and lessons he learned in Guam helped him persevere amidst the pandemic. Join Randy, as he does not only demystify the exciting challenges and hurdles of pursuing a career in the Information Technology field, but also shares personable experiences that will empower IT enthusiasts.
